.: Energize has been helping young people into employment and training for three years.

Energize has been helping young people into employment and training for three years.

However, as you are aware, the criteria for E2E has changed substantially during this time
We have moved with the times, and have re-written our curriculum – this has resulted in a programme which is fit for purpose

.: Our curriculum includes the following elements

Basic Skills
Work related skills
Personal Development
Independent Living
Getting Connected
Sport

We have access to a media expert from the E team, thus enabling the students to participate in various projects:

Students contribute to the E2E magazine
They have their own web page
The young people at Energize have written and performed in videos on topical issues i.e. going for job interviews

Visits, trips

The team at Energize are keen to expand the horizons of the young people on our programme – recent trips include:
Visit to Amazing Music Studio at Leicester Museum
Careers Fair at County Hall
Y theatre production – “Tagged”
Tour of Loughborough College

We also regularly go out to the town centre – for example:

To assess local facilities i.e. in terms of interest/accessibility for different groups (Charnwood Museum, Curzon Cinema)
To carry out the curriculum in relevant settings i.e. numeracy has recently been delivered in shops (Argos, supermarkets, etc)
Visits to the Job Centre
We aim to participate in local events i.e. Healthy Hearts week

We have encouraged visiting speakers to meet with the young people on programme

Recent visitors include:
Glen Banks from Wellingborough Prison Service
Anne Williams (Loughborough College)
Heather Hughes (debate on teenage pregnancy)

We also collapse the timetable at certain times

For example, we are planning a Christmas event on 17 December
“normal” lessons will be “replaced” by planning/preparing for this event – BUT the curriculum will still be delivered!
Numeracy = budgeting for the meal, measuring out ingredients, timing the cooking of food
Literacy = responding to invites, writing menus, as well as writing elements for the “unique entertainment”!
Independent Living/Personal Development = taking ownership of the event, working as a team, working on own intiative
Work Related = there will be many skills developed which can be usefully integrated into CVs

Student Council

We launched the Energize Student Council in September this year
We have two reps and a secretary
Meetings are held every three weeks
Recent actions instigated by the council include:
New smoke alarms
More contemporary display materials
Organising trips/events

We now deliver our E2E programme on three days – Monday-Wednesday

This enables us to offer a vibrant setting for our curriculum, and facilitates team work between the young people

It also makes it easier for PAs to review several clients at one time

End of programme

As a young person approaches the last 6 weeks of his/her programme we change the pattern of delivery to suit particular needs – this could include extra focus on basic skills, accompanied visits to the Job Centre as part of an intensive job search, etc.
In extenuating circumstances, a case conference held during the last 2-3 weeks may identify a need to extend the programme – a case is then made to the LSC for final decision.
Energize writes a reference for every young person leaving the programme.
